After many years in the home based business profession and banging my head against the wall of success, I can tell you from personal experience, part of the reason is the related to the business model. I have heard many professional networkers over the years telling us not to blame the company, products, compensation problem or your team etc. In other words, they say you are totally responsible for the results of your success of failure at developing a residual income. Is that really the case? Well, I don't agree with that. What if the business model is set up that puts you in a disadvantage from the start? The obvious answer is failure. I personally believe there are 2 sides to this debate that need to be addressed.
As a home based business profession, you have a responsibility to invest time in learning your home business. You have to understand what the company products are and what they can do. Also you should learn about the compensation plan to maximize your potential on earning a residual income. Additionally, how the company works in regards to policies and procedures, what tools ans systems are available to utilize. During conversations with your upline support, they probably mentioned something to you about having a big "Why" and if its big enough, you will go through the ups and downs of our industry no matter what the obstacles are. In other words, if you are sufficiently disturbed, you will go through all the no's to get through to the people that say yes to your home based business plan to build a residual income. Personally, I hate it after about the 20th phone call and hearing the word no.
I have believed that philosophy for more years than I can remember because it really has kept me in the game. I absolutely believe you need to invest in yourself to have success. As you develop your communications skills, organizing, planning and leadership skills, you confidence will increase as well. People will be more likely to join you in a home based business and work in partnership to develop a residual income. As unique individuals we all start at different levels of experience and skills to bring to a home based business. My friend Cameron is a very good friend and excellent coach. He has taught me to invest time in people over the years because people will always buy you for who you are before they buy what you have to offer. Other's have taught me to look at successful people and duplicate what they do. Well yes and no.
Successful people can share with you what they personally did to build a successful home based business and develop a significant residual income. They will likely share strategies they used, along with tools and systems to share information to people. Talk to enough people over time and you will increase you chances of being in the 5 percent of successful home businesses.
Even with all the information out there ranging from improving your communication skills, leadership abilities, systems and tools, the failure rate still is way to high. I was chatting with a good friend of mine tonight and talking about our experience in a previous home based business and how difficult it always seemed to create a residual income. We talked to people, shared information and product, followed up, did the home expo shows on weekends and even travelled down to eastern Canada for more training. One common denominator we both faced was having enough customers buying products each month. We both agreed that if we could just have enough buying customers to sustain our business and efforts, how great it would have been. Interesting note, if you evaluate most network marketing companies, the vast majority of people are customers, not business builders. Sure once you get some momentum going, its a lot easier, but what about the rest of your team?
